Every social media network we have today is filled with advertisements.
We cannot get away from them. No matter what page we are on, they are there.
The networks take note of our jobs, interests, etc and show us ads based on those things.
I started to notice adverstisements more because I am an advertising major, so I started keeping a better look out for what is around me. Since I have started paying attention, I have noticed so many ads in places that I never would have expected them. It is completely fascinating to me.
Some advertisements that I have been paying more attention to lately are the ads on Twitter.
In this Survey of the Professional Media course each student was required to open their own Twitter account.
I already had one, so it was no big deal for me. I have had a Twitter for a while now. I get excited over people following me, and I love going on a search for new exciting people for me to follow and learn from. I absolutely love Twitter for various reasons.
For this article review, I thought maybe I would look into something that involved advertising on Twitter.
Then I came across an article titled “Making Money By Twitter Advertising”
(you can read it yourself by clicking this)
Twitter is an excellent tool for communication, and great way to advertise.
Twitter makes money off of companies who want to post advertisements on the site. The business pays Twitter a volume depending on the length of the ad and the amount of space it will take up.
Advertisements must be 140 characters or less and are labeled as promotions in the Twitter stream.
Here’s something I didn’t know: advertisers bid on search phrases on the Twitter site.
If a companies ad does not attract a large number of people, it is removed.
So you have to make it impressive.
Think of how much it takes to catch our attention these days. We are always looking for something new, something different, something exciting and that stands out at us.
Because of this, companies who want to post up advertisements on social media websites have to work extra hard to make sure the content that they are putting out there is enough to grab our attention and keep it on their product. Think of how hard that would be. In 140 characters, these companies have to find the perfect words and picture to catch our eye and spark our interest.
Of course people could try to advertise things concerning their business just through basic tweets on their free Twitter account, but there are not as many people who are going to see it. If you want the numbers, you have to fork out the money. But you can’t fork out the money if you’re not prepared to present something that is going to catch the attention of this generation.
